LUSOTEC renews UTZ certificate for the second year - Thanks to LUSOTEC’s certification, 29 members can continue to sell their tea under the UTZ label. The Good Agricultural Practices adopted by LUSOTEC’s tea farmers positively impact the environment. These practices include for example environmental protection techniques such as the establishment of no-hunting and non-spraying zones to protect water bodies, a complete halt to the use of herbicides, and a significant reduction in the use of other chemicals. These practices brought a positive impact on the environment as indicated by an increase in the amount of birds around production areas and the absence of toxic waste near the farms. Despite

Tu Xa Cooperative starts safe vegetables partnership with VinEco - At the start of 2017, Tu Xa Safe Vegetables Cooperative, one of VECO’s partners in Phu Tho province, started a new collaboration with VinEco on safe vegetables supply. This article introduces this new partnership and provides some insights into Tu Xa’s transition towards a reliable business partner. Tu Xa Cooperative is a young cooperative created in December 2015 with the support of Lam Thao district in Phu Tho province. Cycling in solidarity : accounts from the first Vietnam Classic - Since 2010, Vredeseilanden (VECO in Belgium) has organised bike tours named “Vredeseilanden Classics” to raise funds for VECO’s projects worldwide. After three successful editions in Senegal, Vredeseilanden Classics have been organised in Benin, Nicaragua, Tanzania and Sulawesi in Indonesia. Now, for the first time the event is being held in Vietnam to the delight of food-lovers and nature-enthusiasts. Before joining the Classic, each participant commits to raising a minimum of 3,000€ (72,000,000 VND) back home to support VECO’s programmes. Cracking nuts in Thailand: our new Food Smart Cities approach - One example is the Metropolitan District of Quito home to nearly 2.5 million residents. In 2002, the municipality launched the “AGRUPAR” (Participatory Urban Agriculture) programme. The purpose of the programme is to enhance the food security of vulnerable city inhabitants, generating income from selling food surpluses, and as such increasing their resilience.
